Benefits of Condominium Living Minimize

Moving into a condominium can be a wonderful alternative to consider when you are looking for that next home. While it may not be for everyone, it is an excellent alternative for many as their lives transition from one phase to another.

There are 3 categories people often fit into that find condominium life a very attractive alternative to renting an apartment or home ownership.

Frequent Travelers or Those With Seasonal Homes
If you travel a lot or need to be able to leave with little notice, this can be your ticket to enjoying that freedom.

You can travel never having to be concerned about your yard maintenance, waste or snow removal. All these things are handled for you. You can leave at the drop of a hat knowing that your home is well taken care of while you are gone.

Also, the neighborhoods tend to be very secure. As part of an association of people, the condo neighbors know each other fairly well. They tend to notice suspicious activity and alert the necessary authorities when needed. Having neighbors take an active interest in neighborhood security makes it a lot easier to lock up and leave for a vacation or an extended period of time.

Also, some condominiums often have security features, be they buzzers, security systems, guard services or being a gated community. This is particularly helpful if this is your second home, and you are only there for part of the year.

Desiring Less Maintenance
Your mowing, weeding, landscaping, and trimming are all taken care of for you. Snow removal on your driveway, sidewalks and streets are no longer your concern.

No more backaches from mowing the lawn or shoveling snow. Condo living means someone else takes care of the exterior issues such as roof maintenance or siding problems.

Condo living can also contribute to a more active lifestyle. With access to a clubhouse and community activities you can be as socially active as you want to be. There are happy hours, movie nights, bingo, card nights, holiday parties and you can even rent the community center for private parties.

Your neighbors are friendly and lookout for each other plus you can age in place. If you become physically disabled you don't have to move because you can't take care of the exterior. With modern condo designs, little modification is needed to accommodate handicap or disabled living.

Another feature not often mentioned is that noise is at a minimum. Condo owners tend to be empty nesters, seniors, couples or singles. Some condominium communities are age restricted or restrict the number of people per household so you will need to check to see if you qualify or require those features.

Wanting More Amenities for Less Cost
Yes, there are condo fees but they cover many things you would have to do or pay for yourself if owning a home outright. Here are some of those items:
  • Home insurance - you may only have to insure your contents
  • Lawn care - no more owning equipment such as mowers or weed trimmers
  • Yard waste disposal and garbage service - all you have to do is wheel the garbage can to the end of your driveway once a week
  • Snowplowing services - no more shovels or snow blowers and the risk of hurting your back
  • General home maintenance for the exterior - no ladders needed to get on the roof or fix the siding
  • Yard sprinkling system maintenance - no more moving the hose around to water the lawn or plants
Then there are the extras a condominium community may have that you might not be able to afford on your own:
  • Clubhouse for activities and the ability to rent the facility for private parties
  • Pool
  • Tennis courts and other common areas
  • Exercise facility or area
