Reading blueprints or floor plan drawings can be difficult for some people. Some people have a hard time visualizing the space where others can see the concept in their head. If you have this problem know that you are not alone and do not feel ashamed. For those that tend to use the creative side of their brain they are able picture room sizes or color concepts in their head.

People can be taught how to read a set of blue prints (room sizes, symbols, etc) but most people cannot be taught how to visualize how a room will look with only a set of drawings and a few color swatches. For those that cannot visualize space we suggest you use a tape measure and a helper(s) to create the actual space (basement floor, garage, driveway, etc – use tape or chalk) and then measure your furniture and draw those items in the room space you created to give you a better idea of the actual space.

If you cannot visualize the completed room with all of the colors from swatches then we suggest you look at magazines, store displays or model homes and try to recreate what you are shown. When you are working with an interior designer or the selections coordinator please let them know you cannot visualize the concept so they can give you hints and suggestion and so they will let you know if your selections do not coordinate or work together.

Remember, that if you do not possess the gift of visualization you possess a different gift that works for you.
